happy birthday Hadleigh!

All that Hadleigh has wanted for the past year or so is an American Girl Doll. So, in conjunction with her finally getting the doll of her dreams for her birthday, I decided to throw her an American Girl Doll pioneer party.

I saw the idea on the website of someone my friend Kara has worked with and LOVED it (see onecharmingparty.com/category/american-girl-pioneer-party/).

The girls wore dresses and aprons and then made bonnets out of craft paper (see www.marthastewart.com/how-to/paper-pilgrim-bonnet).
Next, they made homemade bread (mixing and kneading it in plastic bags) and then made strawberry freezer jam. Also, they shook whipping cream in two separate jars to make both butter and whipped cream.
When it was all done the girls (and their dolls) sat down to eat.
After eating, the girls played an old-fashioned game that involved dropping clothes pins into jars from the height of their noses.
Finally, the girls each made a beaded bracelet for their doll.
Everyone went home with their apron and bonnet, their doll bracelet, a mini (doll) sized jar of jam, a mini loaf of bread, and a bag full of old fashioned candy.
Hadleigh & Lily (who also wore a pioneer dress and apron for the occasion).

The day after the party was Hadleigh's actual birthday, so we started off the day with our customary gift opening and a candle-adorned cinnamon roll.
Later Hadleigh was ecstatic to put new (matching) dresses on both herself and Lily to wear to church, courtesy of Grandma Debbie.
In the evening we celebrated Hadleigh's birthday one final time at Grandma Shannon's house. Hadleigh doesn't like cake so she picked out some store-bought brownies and a tub of ice cream instead (to each his own I guess).
(Jackson loves the camera, if that's not obvious)
Happy 9th Birthday Hadleigh! We love you!!
