On Monday, Landon's preschool class went on a field trip to the fire station and I was able to go along. Before the fire station we went to a park where a photographer took class and individual pictures. Then the kids were able to play for a few minutes.
At the fire station, one of the firefighters showed the kids a firetruck (and let them sit inside if they wanted). He also showed them some of the components of the truck like the hose, ladder & huge tires.
notice the size of the tire compared to Jack
Then he showed them an ambulance and even demonstrated how some of the medical equipment works.
Next, another firefighter showed us how he quickly puts on his uniform. He even put on the oxygen tank and mask so he sounded (and looked) like darth vader. The whole point of the visit was for the kids to understand what firefighters do and what they would look like if they were trying to save you in a fire. After seeing the whole suit on, I can understand why kids might be scared if they'd never seen it before!
At the end, the firemen gave the kids plastic fire fighter hats and badges. It was definitely a fun and informative day.
