Last week Scott and I drove to Indianapolis.
The trucking company that Scott works for, Savage, has a contract with the American Fork High School Marching Band during the marching season (October-November), where they haul the band's equipment trailer wherever the band needs to go.
For the second year in a row, Scott was asked by his company to do all of the driving for the band. For its final event this season, the band competed in a national marching competition that was held at Lucas Oil Stadium (where the Colts play) in Indianapolis.
So, with permission from Savage, I was able to go with Scott on the trip. We drove to and from Indiana (and stayed in IN for 3 days) all in the course of 7 days AND all riding in a truck pulling a 53-foot trailer (aka an 18-wheeler). It was definitely an unusual experience but a lot of fun too, especially it being just the two of us most of the time (since the kids got to stay with the grandparents!).
Although we brought our camera, I kind of spaced on taking pictures for almost the entire trip, oops! The one picture that Scott is most upset about us not taking is one of us riding in the truck. So, just try to imagine us spending 48 hours in the cab of a truck listening to several books on CD and eating tons of snacks, that's what a picture would have shown. I did find a picture online of a truck similar to the one we were in, but ours was a brand new 2009.

On the way there, we stopped in Chicago to visit my college roommate and her family (she has an ADORABLE new baby, also named Jaxon who was born in March). We got so caught up in chatting that I never even thought to take any pictures there either. So, I stole one off her blog - I hope that's okay Julie!
This is the Colts stadium, where the competition was held (although I watched numerous marching bands perform I didn't take a single picture of them, not even of AF, oops!):

Once in IN, we stayed in downtown Indianapolis in what is called the Wholesale District. Our hotel itself was absolutely fantastic and we were within walking distance of dozens of 5 star restaurants, a really nice mall, and more clubs and pubs than I thought possible in one area. So, when we weren't doing things with the marching band, we were able to eat a few nice meals out, walk around the mall, and we even went to a show at a comedy club.
This is the street our hotel was on (the mall was to the left, where the long Nordstrom sign is):

I feel so honored to be a mention in your blog!!! Of course you can steal pics of Jaxon...I'd put his pic on every billboard if I could :) Thanks for stopping by. It was so much fun to chat and made me mad that you don't live next door or even in the same state. Especially since Dale likes both of you~it's hard to find couples like that!!! Lots of Love!
